HONDA PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT
When Honda Performance Development, the racing division of Honda within North America, opened its US technical facility in Indianapolis in 2013, an integral part was a Cruden simulator. The simulator is made available to customer Honda teams competing in the IZOD Indycar series, together with Honda powered sportscar teams, ahead of a planned expansion to allow teams in other formulae to take advantage of the technology, to complement and maximise their racing activities.
“Because [setup] changes can be done so quickly, the simulator allows you to run through many more [chassis geometry and track condition] changes than you could perform with an actual race car. It also allows you to perform experiments that would be completely impractical – or highly expensive – on an actual race car.”
